DESCRIPTION:Mateusz Borowiak\, born in London to a family of musicians\, spent his formative years studying piano and composition at the Junior Guildhall and Music at the University of Cambridge. Only in his early twenties did he begin studying piano full-time with Professor Andrzej Jasinski at the Academy of Music in Katowice. Despite this multi-faceted education he has been very active on the performing scene\, playing recitals and concertos as soloist at top venues such as Barbican Hall\, Palais des Beaux Arts (Brussels)\, Salle Cortot (Paris)\, Gasteig (Munich)\, Wigmore Hall\, Philharmonic Hall (St. Petersburg)\, L’Auditori (Barcelona)\, Auditorio Nacional de Musica (Madrid)\, Liszt Hall (Budapest)\, Paul Klee Centre (Bern)\, Sejong Arts Center (Seoul)\, Merkin Hall (New York)\, National Centre for the Performing Arts (Beijing) and Shanghai Symphony Hall. He has appeared at festivals including St. Petersburg International Winter Festival Arts Square\, Cambridge 800th Festival\, Klassiek Leeft Meesterlijk\, Rubinstein Piano Festival\, International Chopin Festival in Duszniki\, Polish Pianist Festivals in Stupsk and the Royal Cracow Piano Festival\, as well as in Austria\, Czechia\, Latvia\, Slovakia\, Turkey and Ukraine.\n  \nOrchestras and ensembles he has performed with include the Royal Philharmonic\, St. Petersburg Philharmonic\, London Mozart Players\, Cascio Phil\, National Orchestra of Belgium\, Royal Flemish Philharmonic\, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra\, Polish Natioanl Radio Symphony Orchestra\, Madrid Symphony Orchestra and the Silesian String Quartet. \n  \nMateusz Borowiak’s concerts were broadcast on television and radio throughout Europe\, Oceania and North America\, on stations including BBC Radio 3\, TV5\, RAI\, RTBF and France Musique.  His performances have been featured in the groundbreaking 2025 Sky Arts documentary “The Lost Music of Auschwitz” that has had global reach.  CD releases include Louis Pelosi’s Thirteen Preludes and Fugues (KASP Record\, New York)\, “Mateusz Borowiak Live at the Queen Elizabeth Competition 2013” (BNP PARIBAS) and 15 Keyboard Sonatas by Antonio Soler (NAXOS) released in 2014 to wide critical acclaim. \n  \nHe has given masterclasses and lectures at Shanghai Music Acadmy\, Suzhou University\, Nanning Arts Institute\, Girton College Cambridge\, Junior Guildhall\, Piano Lab Belgium\, Academies of Music in Łódź\, Poznań and Katowice (Poland) and is currently assistant professor at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice. \n  \nMateusz Borowiak will play: \n  \nSzymanowski – 9 Preludes\, Op.1 \nSzymanowski – Masques\, Op.34: \nSchéhérazade – Tantris le bouffon – Sérénade de Don Juan\nChopin – Four Mazurkas\, Op.24 \nChopin – Nocturne in B major\, Op.62 No.1 \nChopin – Sonata in B flat major\, Op.35 \n  \nThis concert is sponsored by the Polish Cultural Institute as part of the UK/Poland Season 2025 \n\nOur piano\, a fine 2015 Hamburg Steinway Model B Grand\, was chosen for us by Steinway’s famous Head of Concert & Artist Services\, Ulrich Gerhartz.  It is maintained by Steinways\, who tune it immediately before each recital. \nAfter the concert we offer a traditional English tea of freshly-made sandwiches with savouries\, cakes and chocolate biscuits accompanied by a choice of a glass of wine\, or unlimited tea\, coffee or juice.  It’s a great opportunity to meet fellow music-lovers and make new friends.  Tea tickets are £10 (standard)\, £5 (students & schoolchildren)\, £4 (Youth Members).  They are sold on the door for cash only.  We can cater for up 70.
